Bavarian Deputy Minister-President and German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs (BMWE) visit as QuantumDiamonds opens first section of its new Munich production facility

Munich, Germany, July 23, 2026 - QuantumDiamonds GmbH (QD), a novel manufacturer of semiconductor inspection systems based on quantum sensing, has brought online the first operational section of its new facility in Munich, the site set to become the world's first production facility for semiconductor inspection based on quantum sensing. The section was completed on a fast track time line within four months, under the framework of the European Chips Act, achieving a first concrete milestone in the build-out of QD's production capacity.

To mark the occasion, QuantumDiamonds hosted Hubert Aiwanger, Bavarian Deputy Minister-President and State Minister for Economic Affairs, Regional Development and Energy, and Dr. Irina Kerner of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWE). The delegation toured the newly completed section, saw QD's commercial system in operation, received a live demonstration, and previewed QD's latest development work toward InLine full-wafer mapping.

The fast track section houses the initial part of QD's laboratory environment. Completing it ahead of schedule allows QuantumDiamonds to begin ramping capacity for its Quantum Diamond Microscope (QDm.1) and to move manufacturing closer to the volumes its semiconductor customers require. The facility is being built to become the first dedicated production site worldwide for semiconductor inspection systems based on quantum sensing, giving Europe a commercial and technological lead in a cutting-edge inspection capability.

During the tour, the delegation saw the QDm.1 in operation. The system leverages atomic-scale defects in synthetic diamond, so-called nitrogen-vacancy centers, to detect electrical currents with extreme precision: effectively a microscope that can see electricity flowing through chips. It delivers non-destructive, high-resolution 3D imaging of current pathways inside advanced 2.5D and 3D chip architectures, pinpointing the precise location and depth of defects within minutes, where conventional tools require lengthy, destructive, layer-by-layer sample debugging.

QuantumDiamonds also gave its guests a preview of its most advanced development work, the move toward InLine full-wafer mapping. This next step is aimed at bringing QD's imaging capability directly into semiconductor production and test flows at wafer scale, a capability of strategic importance for European chip manufacturing.

"Bringing this capability to full-wafer scale inside the production flow is one of the hardest and most valuable problems in the field, and this facility gives us the ground to solve it."

In the course of the visit, the German federal government and the Free State of Bavaria also officially handed over the funding decision for QuantumDiamonds under the European Chips Act, jointly co-financing the company's production ramp-up.

Anyone who wants to be independent in semiconductors must also master the technologies used to inspect and qualify chips. This is exactly where QuantumDiamonds comes in."
